Host nation Russia have qualified from World Cup group A with Uruguay
Ten teams have qualified for the World Cup round of 16 but with a number of group matches still left to take place there’s much to play for.
The teams who have qualified for the knockout stages are Uruguay, Russia, Spain, Portugal, France, Denmark, Croatia, Argentina, England and Belgium.
Here we look at the final group standings, which teams are eliminated and the permutations to decide who qualifies for the last 16.
World Cup round of 16 fixtures
- 30 June: France vs. Argentina at Kazan Arena, Kazan; 3pm
- 30 June: Uruguay vs. Portugal at Fisht Olympic Stadium, Sochi; 7pm
- 1 July: Spain vs. Russia at Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow; 3pm
- 1 July: Croatia vs. Denmark at Nizhny Novgorod; 7pm
- 2 July: E1 vs. F2 at Samara; 3pm
- 2 July: G1 vs. H2 at Rostov-on-Don; 7pm
- 3 July: F1 vs. E2 at St Petersburg; 3pm
- 3 July: H1 vs. G2 at Spartak Stadium, Moscow; 7pm
Group A final standings
- Qualifiers: Uruguay and Russia
- Eliminated: Saudi Arabia and Egypt
In the last 16, group A winners Uruguay will play group B runners-up Portugal on 30 June at the Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi. Russia will take on group B winners Spain at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on 1 July.
Group B final standings
- Qualifiers: Spain and Portugal
- Eliminated: Iran and Morocco
Spain finished top of group B and will play the host nation Russia at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on 1 July. Portugal claimed second spot in group B and will face group A winners Uruguay in the round of 16 on 30 June at the Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi.
Group C final standings
- Qualifiers: France and Denmark
- Eliminated: Peru and Australia
France will play Argentina at the Kazan Arena on 30 June while Denmark take on Croatia at Nizhny Novgorod on 1 July.
Group D final standings
- Qualifiers: Croatia and Argentina
- Eliminated: Nigeria and Iceland
Argentina play France at the Kazan Arena on 30 June while Croatia take on Denmark in Nizhny Novgorod on 1 July.
Group E permutations
Brazil, Switzerland and Serbia are all battling for the two group E qualification spots. Costa Rica are eliminated.
27 June fixtures: Serbia vs. Brazil (7pm, ITV); Switzerland vs. Costa Rica (7pm, ITV4)
Fifa.com explains the permutations in group E:
- Brazil will qualify if they avoid defeat against Serbia
- Switzerland will qualify if they win or draw against Costa Rica, or if Serbia lose their clash against Brazil
- Serbia will go through if they beat Brazil
- If Brazil lose to Serbia and Switzerland lose to Costa Rica, goal difference or disciplinary records could save Brazil
- Costa Rica are out
Group F permutations
It’s all to play for in group F with the four teams still battling for qualification.
27 June fixtures: Korea Republic vs. Germany (3pm, BBC); Mexico vs. Sweden (3pm, BBC)
Fifa.com explains the permutations in group F:
- Mexico need a point against Sweden to qualify in first place
- If Germany fail to beat Korea Mexico qualify
- Sweden will qualify if they better Germany’s result
- Sweden will finish top if they beat Mexico and better Germany’s result
- Germany qualify if they win by two clear goals or more
- Korea Republic will qualify if they beat Germany and Sweden lose. Also, Korea will need to finish with a better goal difference than both Germany and Sweden
Group G permutations
England and Belgium have already qualified from group G. Their clash on Thursday will decide who finishes top and who finishes second. Tunisia and Panama are eliminated.
28 June fixtures: England vs. Belgium (7pm, ITV); Panama vs. Tunisia (7pm, ITV4)
Fifa.com explains the permutations in group G:
- England and Belgium have identical records so a winner on Thursday will qualify top while a loser will be second
- If the England vs. Belgium match ends in a draw it will come down to the disciplinary records of both teams to decide who finishes top
- If it’s a draw and the disciplinary records are the same then lots will be drawn to decide the final group places
- Tunisia and Panama are out
Group H permutations
Only Poland are eliminated so it’s between Japan, Senegal and Colombia for the two qualifying places in group H.
28 June fixtures: Senegal vs. Colombia (3pm, BBC); Japan vs. Poland (3pm, BBC)

- Japan and Senegal each need a point to qualify
- Colombia can qualify if they beat Senegal
- A draw against Senegal could be good enough for Colombia if Poland beat Japan
