The 600LT makes its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed next month
McLaren is just days away from taking the wraps off a hardcore, track-inspired version of its 570S supercar.
The new model is reportedly called the 600LT, referring to the vehicle’s near 600bhp power output and “Longtail” design - with the bodywork extending further at the rear than on the standard 570S.
If true, that would make it the second model in McLaren’s range to be given the Longtail name, derived from the company’s Le Mans cars from the late 1990s. The first production car to get the name was the 675LT from 2015, which was based on the marque’s 650S supercar.
Here’s what else we know about the 600LT:
When does it come out?
McLaren is on course to unveil the 600LT on Thursday, according to US-based motoring blog Motor Authority. The car will then make its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which runs from 12 to 15 July.
Prices could start at around £200,000, says Autocar, making the 600LT around £50,000 more expensive than its 570S sibling.
What will it look like?
No official images of the car’s final form have been released as yet.
However, McLaren has shared a shadowy image of the vehicle’s back end that shows the 600LT will have twin exhaust outlets which exit above the engine cover.
Spy shots of the camouflage-covered supercar, posted on Autocar, offer a bit more insight into the vehicle’s final form.
Despite being based on the company’s entry-level supercar, the 600LT has a variety of track-focused additions, including a fixed carbon-fibre rear wing, wider wheel arches and carbon side skirts running along the bottom of the vehicle.
There’s also a giant diffuser at the back and, as the name suggests, the tail end is slightly longer to accommodate it.
At the front, the 600LT gets a few more carbon fibre winglets than the 570S, which should help improve aerodynamic grip at higher speeds.
Does it get a power hike?
The 600LT is expected to feature the same 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine as the 570S, but according to insider reports, power will rise from 562bhp to 592bhp, says Auto Express. McLaren is also tipped to equip the car with a new exhaust system, to improve the engine’s sound.
