Codemasters has launched the first trailer for its upcoming F1 2019 game, and it’s arriving far sooner than fans were expecting.
The Birmingham-based studio often releases its F1 games between August and September, but this year’s instalment is on course to hit the shops at the end of June.
While the trailer doesn’t reveal many details about the game, Codemasters claims that F1 2019 has been in development for two years and will feature a host of new modes that fans have been requesting for years.
Gamers can also expect all 20 drivers, including reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton and new Ferrari signing Charles Leclerc, along with all the teams and circuits from this year’s F1 season.
Here’s everything we know so far about F1 2019:
When does it come out?
F1 2019 officially launches on 28 June, the same weekend as the Austrian Grand Prix, on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Where to pre-order
Pre-orders are open now on Amazon, with prices starting at £54.99.
The game is currently listed as F1 2019 Anniversary Edition, though there’s no word yet on what will be included in this version of the game.
F2 cars debut
For the first time in an F1 game, players will be able to access all the teams, drivers and tracks from this year’s Formula 2 championship – a feature that has been long requested by the game’s fans.
Unlike Formula 1, where all the cars are designed by teams to meet a set of technical regulations, F2 features cars that are identical to each other. All the vehicles are built by Italian racing car maker Dallara and driven by young drivers hoping to step into F1.
The junior series has spawned some of F1’s biggest stars, including Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. There are also three former F2 drivers on this year’s F1 grid: Williams’s George Russell, McLaren’s Lando Norris and Toro Rosso driver Alex Albon.
It’s not yet known how F2 will be implemented in the F1 title, but Eurogamer says the junior championship “promises a bit more diversity” to the game’s career mode.
Customisable cars
Another first for the F1 franchise is that F1 2019 will allow players to customise their own F1 car.
The customisable car has been developed with the assistance of Ross Brawn and Pat Symonds, who have both been involved with championship-winning F1 teams, and meets this year’s new car regulations, reports gaming news site GT Planet.
Players will be able to customise the car’s styling by picking from a selection of liveries and paint schemes, the tech site says. It’s believed the car will be used online, as opposed to the game’s career mode, for esport competitions.
Lee Mather, the game’s director, said the collaboration with Ross Brawn and Pat Symonds “has created new levels of player personalisation in F1 2019 through the inclusion of the new regulation car.
“With the continued growth of the F1 series, it’s great to give players more control and new levels of car and driver customisation and we can’t wait to talk more about this alongside the new multiplayer features in the coming months”, he added.
