Butchers in France have called on the police to provide protection from “militant vegans”. The request by the French Confederation of Butchery, Butchers and Delicatessens follows a number of attacks on butcher shops, including vandalism and anti-meat slogans.
Fish dead after distillery collapse
Officials in the US have reported that nearly 1,000 fish have been killed, following an accident in a Kentucky distillery. One section of the distillery’s warehouse collapsed, spilling thousands of litres of bourbon, some of which has found its way into a local river.
Music festival halted by bird’s nest
Set-up for a 10-day music festival in Canada has been halted, after the discovery of a bird’s nest with four small eggs in it at the site where the main stage is to be erected. The nest belongs to a protected species, and authorities are trying to decide whether the nest can be moved, or if the eggs should be incubated.
