The future of Alexis Sanchez is once more exciting the great and the good of the British media.

According to The Sun the player they describe as an “Arsenal rebel” is wanted by Everton and the club’s owner, Farhad Moshiri, is planning a shock move for the Chilean sharpshooter in January.

The Toffees have endured a sticky start to the season and recently parted company with manager Ronald Koeman, and Moshiri has identified Sanchez as the man to bring the club back to life after Christmas.

The Sun claims that Moshiri intends “to bankroll a £30million deal” for Sanchez, confident that the Gunners will agree to a sale rather than let the South American leave on a free transfer in the summer when his contract expires.

The obstacle that Everton must surmount is Sanchez’s personal ambition, and his reported desire to play Champions League football with either Manchester City or Paris Saint-Germain next season.

The Daily Mirror states that City are in the driving seat to sign Sanchez - who will face the Sky Blues this weekend - and they “will not give Arsenal a penny” in exchange for the 28-year-old. Why not? Because they’re prepared to wait until the end of the season before requesting his signature.

The prospect of landing him as a free agent is mouthwatering for the Sky Blues, says the Mirror, because it will enable them to “wreak revenge on the Gunners over their decision to scupper a £60million deadline-day deal”.

Back in August City had been confident of agreeing a deal with Arsenal for Sanchez only for negotiations to breakdown at the 11th hour when the north London outfit failed in their bid to lure Thomas Lemar from Monaco as a replacement for the Chile ace.

There were rumours that City would table a £20m bid for Sanchez in January but the Mirror says the Premier League leaders “are still angry at the way Arsenal handled negotiations for Sanchez in August” and therefore intend to get their man in June without giving the Gunners a penny.
